OUR STORY

Our story traces its roots back to a distant past when, in the early '20s, the grandfather of the owner Cosimo, a master of dry-stone walls, decided to build a house for his family. Stone by stone, grandfather Donato gave life to our home and Masseria Monacelle.

THE BEGINNINGS

On rainy days, when the weather conditions prevented his work, Donato started working the stones for his house. Giuseppe, the eldest son, transported the squared stones from the woods to the farmhouse with the help of a mule and a harness.

The rooms, also built with the assistance of an expert, still constitute our home today, Masseria Monacelle.

The meaning of Masseria Monacelle

Have you ever wondered what Monacelle means? According to the tales, Monacelle were wheat grains still covered with husks after being trampled by horses.

Why our Masseria bears this name remains a mystery.

The evolution of the Masseria

In the ’75s, the Masseria underwent a series of transformations, such as the construction of the barn and the expansion of the house.

The current owner, Cosimo Mansueto, along with his wife Nada, took the reins of the Masseria in 1994.

In January 2008, the company underwent further evolution with the opening of the milking parlor and, a few months later, with the opening of the mini-dairy. Since then, the milk from our 90 cows has been used for all our dairy and cheese production.

The family

Over the years, Monacelle has continued to be a Masseria bound by family affections. In fact, Cosimo and Nada passed on their passion to their daughters, Rosita and Arianna, who also, with dedication and innovation, strive to uphold the name of the company every day.
